Band
Camp will be held from Friday, August 22-Thursday, August
28 on an off campus location in Upstate NY. Rooms and meals
will be provided. Report and registration will be at Lucy Stone
Hall on the 20th from 8:30-10:00, followed by a meeting for all
students and parents beginning at 10:00am. Many details can be found
on this page, but please call the office, 732-445-2480 should you
have any additional questions.
 Uniforms:
There is a $25 uniform fee, which is to be paid at registration
(this includes 2 T-shirts and a baseball cap). This fee must
be paid prior to receiving your uniform. You must have solid
white marching shoes. Both shoes and white gloves are available
from Music Modes and can be obtained with the form you will receive
during the summer. You must purchase a pair of solid white
socks and white underwear (no bikinis). The underwear is for
when we wear the white uniform pants.
Instruments:
Don't forget your instrument. For those playing a university-owned
instrument, there is a $10 fee, which is to be paid at registration.
This includes all percussion, tubas, baritones, mellophones, tenor
saxes, piccolos, and any other school-owned instruments. If you
own your own tenor sax or piccolo, you will not have to rent an
instrument.
Checks
or Cash? You may pay for band fees with cash or checks. Make
checks payable to Rutgers Band. Please write a single check for
uniform and/or instrument fees.
Health
Form: Everyone must mail in or bring the Health Form to
registration...this includes old members.
Early
Check-In for Dorms: You must send in the form with
your campus name and dorm name as soon as possible. Some
freshmen will not know by then so call as soon as you know. As
soon as band camps ends, you can move into your dorm for the year.
Many of you may elect to go home after Band Camp and come back for
the
normal check-in.

camp. You can us your lyre and flip folder for music rehearsals.
You may also bring a wire stand to use (this may especially be helpful

Rehearsal
Schedule and Game Day Schedule: Rehearsals are held
each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30-6:30 pm at the practice
field on Livingston Campus. On game days, we usually rehearse
about three hours before the game for an hour. An Academy
Bus will pick up students in front of the Student Centers at College
Ave., Busch, and Cook/Douglas thirty minutes prior to the reporting
time. They will also return you to those places following the
game. There is no stadium parking; everyone
must be on the bus. We march into the stadium about 30 minutes
prior to kickoff. After the game, we do a post game show on the
field. This is a great Rutgers Band Tradition that your family
and friends will love!
How
long does the season last? Our last game is in November,
about a month before the end of the semester. The following week
we will do some recording and collect uniforms and instruments. You
will then be finished with band for the semester. That is, unless
we are in a postseason bowl!
 Can
I play in a Concert Band? Absolutely! Auditions
are held for Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band during the first week
of each semester. You receive one-hour credit for either class.
Wind Ensemble rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:45-6:30pm.
Symphony Band rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:30pm. Symphony
Band rehearses in Walters Hall, Room 240, and Wind Ensemble meets
in room 104 in Rehearsal Hall. You may elect to play in these
ensembles for the Fall or Spring semesters, or play during both
semesters. Just prepare a piece of your choice for the audition.
You can find audition dates on the Music
Department Web Site at the beginning of each semester.
Concert
Band There is a third Ensemble in the spring semester! This
is the Concert Band. Your Conductor for this ensemble will be none
other than Professor Smith.
What
if I have a problem with a rehearsal, a band member, or study habits?
Anytime you have trouble, you should feel free to call on Professor Smith. He
is here for you, and he realizes that you put a tremendous amount of
energy
into the Band. He wants to help in any way he can.
